Preparing to travel to Bhutan

Bhutan visa application

A visa application is required to travel to Bhutan.

The required passport validity period when applying for a visa is at least 6 months when leaving Bhutan. Bhutan tourist visas can only be applied for by the Bhutanese Ministry of Home Affairs in the capital Thimphu. Therefore, you will apply through a local travel agency. After application, a clearance letter (entry permit) will be issued. Please present it when you enter Bhutan. A visa will be issued locally.

Necessities for Bhutan travel

• Toilet paper / tissue paper For

foreigners, there is no need to worry about it, but it may be left behind or the paper quality may be stiff, so it is safer to take it from Japan.

Hands get dirty with wet tissue dust, which is useful when you cannot wash your hands.

• Insect bites drugs, such as insect repellent

to mosquitoes and fleas measures, we recommend that you have.

You can buy Indian medicines in big towns, but it may be too strong for Japanese people, so it's safer if you bring something you are familiar with from Japan, such as gastrointestinal drugs and sickness prevention.

• Sunglasses, parasols, and sunscreen cream

Bhutan are strong in the sun. It is recommended to bring sunglasses, parasols and sunscreen cream for UV protection.

• Folding umbrellas

are very helpful during the rainy season. It can be used as a parasol when the sun is strong.

Please be sure to bring your mobile phone with you because it may not be possible to charge the watch locally.

We recommend that you prepare a small flashlight for power outage countermeasures.

It is convenient to have a moisturizing cream, lip balm, and desiccant dry.

• SD card

Bhutan is hard to get the camera's SD card, so it is recommended to bring it from Japan.

Costs required during travel

Traveling in Bhutan includes all accommodation, guide and meals. Other costs include drinks, souvenirs, and tips.

Credit cards can be used but are not common and are limited to some luxury hotels and souvenir shops. There may also be a fee. Only a small part of traveler's checks are available.
