Notes on traveling in India 1 (Entry, Hotel, Currency Exchange)

We will explain in detail the things you should be aware of when traveling to India (immigration, hotel, currency, tip, currency exchange, etc.).

About entry

When you enter India, you will be asked to show your “Visa” and “Passport”. Follow the instructions of the staff.

Local guide

In the case of a guided tour, a Japanese guide will meet you at the airport on the day of arrival and take care of you until the airport on the final day. We will also guide you in sightseeing spots, so you can enjoy traveling with peace of mind. In addition, the free plan will assist you with transfers between the airport and the hotel and between the hotel and the train station upon request. The railway is difficult for foreigners to understand, so we can assist you when boarding.

Hotel

As for bathing, India does not have the custom of soaking in hot water in a bathtub, so there are cases where hot water is not available in large quantities at hotels like Japan. There are also many hotels without bathtubs. Please note.

currency

Indian currency is Rs. (Rs. Single is Re), auxiliary currency is Paisa (P), and 1 Rupee is 100 Pais. Coins are, Re.1, Rs.2, Rs.5, Rs.10. There are nine types of banknotes: Rs.10, Rs.20, Rs.50, Rs.100, Rs.200, Rs.500. You can exchange both Japanese yen and US dollars without problem, but US dollars that can be used directly at souvenir shops are convenient because of their wide range of use. Banknotes with large holes (approximately 1 cm or less in diameter are generally not a problem), and banknotes that have been cleaved with cellophane tape are considered “not worth” and will be rejected. Please check carefully when you receive your changes.

ABOUT Tipping

Tips for hotel porters are given in advance by the guide to the person responsible for the porter, but it is customary to pass 20 rupees per suitcase when handing it to the porter who brought the baggage to each room. We are (It is not compulsory, but they may insist; please give it in that case.) Also, if you take an elephant taxi from the pass at Amber Castle in Jaipur, at least about 50 rupees after getting off the elephant Please hand it over (100 rupees if two people ride on one). Elephant taxis are always visited by a large number of tourists, who are working hard. The tip you give will be used to feed the elephant. There is a tipping habit in India, but it is just a feeling., the guide is US $ 25 per day, the driver is US $ 15 per day, the driver assistant US $ 5.

About exchange

The currency of India, Nepal and Sri Lanka cannot be exchanged in Japan.

In India, you can only exchange rupee from foreign currency. Currency exchange is also possible at the local airport, but in the case of tours etc., we ask that you usually go to the hotel due to the time. However, please note that it is possible for each hotel to exchange money from US dollars or from Japanese yen. Small hotels do not stock much rupee banknotes, but if you need to exchange money in groups, you can contact the hotel in advance to make preparations. In addition, if you can contact us in advance in the form of one person, you can hand it over from the guide at the time of local pick-up. However, in this case we will prepare in advance, so it is different from the rate of arrival date or delivery date, and there is no exchange certificate issued, so even if there are excess banknotes, it will not be possible to exchange money again. Please understand this point beforehand. (* Exchange certificates are required to redeem banknotes again when leaving the country, etc.)

Foreign exchange financial institutions such as hotels, banks, government-certified exchange offices, American Express, Thomas Cook, etc. You can exchange money at Since there are things that cannot be done by local banks, we recommend that you exchange money in urban areas as much as possible. When you receive a rupee after changing money, let's check not only the number but also the torn. Also, be sure to receive a foreign currency purchase certificate (receipt) when changing money. Unused rupees can only be exchanged back into foreign currency (US dollars) at a bank near the check-in counter at the airport for departure or departure to a third country. Please present your passport, boarding pass, exchange certificate, and check the amount in front of you when you give cash to the staff. However, re-exchange from rupee (possible only at the airport at the time of departure) is very bad, so it is recommended that you exchange money frequently. Since Japan does not handle Indian rupee, it is not possible to exchange money after returning home. Due to the influence of the deflationary economy, there are many cases where large bills are not changed in general stores, so we recommend that you exchange small bills frequently without changing too much money.

ABOUT Credit cards

Credit cards such as Visa / Master can be used in urban banks, luxury hotels, restaurants and souvenirs, but the penetration rate is low and it can not be used at general stores.
