Notes on Sri Lanka Travel 4 (Local transportation / tourism)

This is a detailed explanation of things you should be aware of when traveling to Sri Lanka (traffic conditions).

About local movement

Sri Lanka's means of transportation include taxis, three-wheelers (three-wheel auto rickshaws), and buses. A taxi is called a yellow taxi because of the color of its body, and it has a TAXI sign on the roof. Please note that some drivers do not want to use the meter. Three Wheeler is a three-wheel auto rickshaw. You can easily find it in towns other than Colombo. Fees are negotiated and are often said to be high for foreign tourists, so it is a good idea to ask the market price before using.

Bus

Sri Lanka's bus routes are well developed and convenient to get to small towns. There are state-owned bus companies and private bus companies, and in particular, state-owned buses have many routes to every corner of the country. There are two types of private buses: normal buses and intercity buses. Some intercity buses have air conditioning. That will increase the price. Be sure to wear valuables in a crowded car and pay careful attention to scratches.

Train

Compared to train buses, there are fewer routes and numbers. However, it can move more slowly than a busy bus. Depending on the train, there are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class cars, reservations are made 10 days in advance, and reservations may not be possible in advance depending on the class. There is no in-car broadcast, so be careful when getting off. It's less crowded than the bus, but it's quite crowded during the festival.
